Ashanti Shequoiya Douglas popularly known in the media as Ashanti was born on the 13th of October 1981 in Glen Cove New York United States. She is a songwriter, singer and actor from The United States. Ashanti was discovered while an teen and signing with Murder Inc. Records in 2002. In the same year Ashanti was featured on fat Joe's What's Luv? The singer also appeared in Fat Joe's track What's the Luv? When she had Foolish and The What's Luv as the top two songs, she became the first female artist to be featured in two tracks that were in the Billboard Hot 100 chart top ten of the United States. Tina Douglas her mother is an instructor in dance and Ken-Kaide Thomas Douglas her father was a former singer. Kenashia Shia is her younger sibling. Douglas named her Ashanti following Ghana's Ashanti Empire in which women held power and had power and influence. Douglas wanted Ashantis to adopt this same model. James Her grandfather was a prominent leader of civil rights in the 1960s who worked along with Martin Luther King Jr. Ashanti's mother discovered her daughter's talent after she overheard her singing Mary J. Blige's Reminisce. Ashanti was a child actor on Spike Lee's Malcolm X and Ted Demme's Who's the Man? There were also a couple of cameos in music videos including K.R.S.-Act One's MC's Like They Don't Know and the 8-Off's Ghetto Girl. After being approached by record labels including Bad Boy and Jive, Ashanti had a difficult time trying to be a popular singer. The singer continued to tour at New York, and spent some time at Murder Inc. studios hoping for a breakthrough. Ashanti was originally a backup singer on Big Pun's hit song, How We Roll. She was also featured on the Fat Joe's song"What's Luv?" and Ja Rule's Never On Time. The track she used for her first single Foolish was taken from DeBarge's with Me the track from 1983. Ashanti dropped her self-titled debut album in 2002. It was released on Irv Goti's Murder Inc. label. The Declaration her fourth studio album out on June 3rd, 2008. Hey Baby After the Club was released on 16 October for radio and digital outlets. The actress starred in the movie Christmas in the City and as Latasha the character Montclair from Army Wives. Aitch, a British rapper, performed her track Rock wit U for Baby in 2022, on the 10th of March.
